Things I have Been Doing For the Past Two Months

Once again, after a two-month hiatus I'm finally back! (not that anyone cares, really)

So what have I been doing these past two months? Well for one thing I've...

  • ...made a puzzle-platformer about the Harlem Globetrotters in an unsuccessful attempt to get an internship with Firaxis.
  • ...beaten Diablo III
  • ...played way too much TF2
  • ...played not enough A Valley Without Wind
  • ...bought Persona 3: FES
  • ...read some hilariously bad fanficiton.
  • ...developed house rules for a Shin Megami Tensei: Persona-themed game of The Dresden Files RPG
  • ...started two Play-By-Post RPGs; Kingdom Hearts-themed Mutants and Masterminds game, and a Persona-themed Dresden Files RPG game.
  • ...got Netflix and watched way too many episodes of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
  • ...started a Homestuck-themed graphics pack for A Valley Without Wind
  • ...done jack-squat on my Dungeons of Dredmor mod.
  • ...read Flex Mentallo: The Man of Muscle Mastery, and really enjoyed it even if I only had the vaguest idea what was actually going on. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes really confusing comic books
  • ...written some stuff for The SCP Foundation.
I'm probably going to go into more detail about this stuff in future blog posts, this is just an overview of what I've been up to.

Dredstuck: ...wait, you mean you were still working on it?

After months and months of not-particularly-hard work, the first version of Dredstuck, my Homestuck-Themed Dungeons of Dredmor mod is complete!

As mentioned previously, this version focuses on adding skills and items based on Dave Strider in the form of the "Hipsterology" skilltree, which gives powerful, melee-oriented stat buffs in exchange for dehibilitating penalties. It also gives starts you with the Broken Caledscratch, which can potentially be crafted into one of the beast weapons in the game!

It also implements something I like to call "True Alchemy", which provides special recipes that allow you transmute crafting materials!

If you saw my last post, then you already know about Flash Step and Unbelievably Ill Jams, but what about the new skills? Let's go over them, shall we?

Game Jam III: Do you remember love?

Woo! Another game jam!

This time I teammed up with Matt Dallas to make a short, Ikaruga-inspired platformer using Stencyl. It's rough around the edges and it lags like crazy, but it's not bad for 8-hours work. He's also expressed intrest for doing the music for an iOS version of my last game jam game, but we'll just see if that works out.

Game Jam II: Electric Boogaloo

We had another Game Jam today. The theme was "Addiction" and once again I ended up making something by myself in 24 hours. Considering my time restrictions, I think it turned out pretty well, I might even turn it into an Android app someday.

You can play it by clicking here. Please tell me what you think of it.

I really need to update this more.

Okay, I admit; I still haven't gotten much work done on the Dredmor mod, or Gemini Rush. Things have been busy for me and I really haven't had much of a chance to work on it. Especially since I'm the lead designer for a school project that involves making a game from scratch.

Still I guess it's only fair that I show you some things I have been doing in the meantime:

[PRETENTIOUS JAPANESE SUBTITLE] is a short game made in Construct 2 for an eight hour game jam, and uploaded to the Indie Pirate Kart. I made it in Construct 2 because I wanted to get familiar with the tools, which my group is using for our project.

Anyway, the concept is solid, but the game itself is glitchy as hell. I might turn this into a full game later, but if so I'll probably do it in something more proven, like Flixel. Music done by TM23 on Newgrounds.

Second: LORD ENGLISH TAKES OVER THE WORLD, a hilariously short RPG made in the Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine, made over the course of 1 day for the Pirate Kart.

Last but not least: InfiKnights: Chronicle of the Last War, a metafictional forum adventure framed as an 8-bit JRPG. Not that I'm abandoning TLOJ On the contrary, I've decided to settle on a "at least once a week" update schedule for both projects (plus a minor project called Tokyo Adventures).

Over the course of the next couple days I'll try to post the results some failed projects of mine, just for fun of course.

No Funny Title for you Because I'm Protesting SOPA!

I posted a new version of the game I'm making, but because I support the SOPA protest I'M NOT GOING TO GIVE YOU A HYPERLINK FOR IT! Instead, if you want to play it, you're going to have to suffer the minor inconvenience of COPYING AND PASTING THE LINK INTO YOUR ADRESS BAR!  MWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

In fact, I'm not even going to give you a changelong until tomorrow! I'm just that evil!

SideTracked

Allright, I have to admit: I haven't been working on the Homestuck mod recently.

This time, however, I have an excuse: I've been working of a flash game programmed from scratch using the Flixel development library. In the game, you control two characters and once and use a big laser beam thing stretching between the characters to kill enemies, and it's going to be set in space or something.

And guess what? You lucky readers get to be the first people to test my game out! All three of you!

Controls:

WASD: Control Blue Player
Mouse: Control Red Player
Z, X, C, V, B, and N: Spawn Enemies

Known Glitches:

  • The large, Blue enemies occasionally continue to spawn new red enemies after being killed.
  • Minor Slowdown Issues
  • Rare glitch where Herobrine haunts your nightmares for all eternity.
Have fun! :D
